My name is Hem Rizal and I’m the founder of Our Niece and Nephews Tutoring Solutions.

When the global pandemic unfolded, I was teaching high school math. As the scale of the crisis became clear, I knew that this was going to be one of the biggest disasters in the history of public education, and I knew that I needed to do something about it.  

In the Fall of 2020, while I was in graduate school, I started tutoring my two nephews to help them keep up with their schoolwork. But I quickly realized that there were more children in my family who could use some extra academic support.

The challenge was that my brothers and sisters could not afford to pay for private tutors to help their kids catch up with learning loss. This was not just a problem for my family, but for many lower-income families who were struggling to keep up with their children's education.

Despite these obstacles, I was determined to make a difference. I continued tutoring my nieces and nephews and gradually increased the number of students. As I worked with these young scholars in our family, I began to see the impact that targeted, one-on-one support could have on a child's academic success.

That's when I had the idea for ONN Tutoring Solutions. I wanted to create a tutoring service that could provide affordable, comprehensive, community-minded support to students who needed it most. By working with families and educators to curate the best intervention and enrichment strategy for each child, we can help students overcome the challenges of the pandemic and succeed in their academic goals.
